Should you buy or build in this economy?

There is no doubt that we are living in the most unusual times, economically speaking, our generation has ever experienced, yet we are still charged with the task of making great business and family decisions. Without question, the decision of where to raise our families is and will always remain the most important.
Should you buy now and take advantage of the foreclosures, short sales, and auctions, or should you consider new construction?
No doubt there are some tremendous bargains in the housing market today. If the home is in a quality neighborhood and meets your family’s expectations and needs, by all means take advantage of the savings.
I would caution you, however, to weigh all aspects of such an important decision. Many times the allure of a great deal will take precedence over gathering all needed information to make an intelligent, well-informed decision. Be cautious and wise, and take the time to do your own personal due diligence.
Likewise, building a new home in this economy has proven to provide great value. Contractors and subcontractors are willing to reduce their fees. Vendors are lowering their material cost, and land values are less than they’ve been in a decade. If you are willing to spend a small amount of time investigating subdivisions and rural areas alike, you may be pleasantly surprised at your findings.
If you are willing to adapt and alter location, amenities, and personal selections, I suggest you take advantage of the existing market. If you want to live in a particular area, create your own home design, and add your own personal touch, I suggest you take advantage of the present economy in which we presently live and build your dream custom home.
